My One Word Film Project was to create a short film that represented a word your group is given, but with no sound. We chose our own partner to work with and then went went to picked a word from a word jar, we got the word jar “Concerned”. We decided to do a story about someone concered about their math test so much, that they forgot that class had already started. I wish we could’ve done something more creative, but we had to work fast since the next class we had to start and finish filming and we also had to show our plans to our teacher. The story had to be something that could actually occur within 60-90 seconds and it had to be filmed in school, so we couldn’t do anything too complicated or long.
The first thing we had to do were to brainstorm what was going to happen. In the brainstorm sheet, we had to describe what was going on in the scene and what shot it would be. We decided to use many different types of close ups to emphasize the worried and concerned emotions and action the character was feeling.
Brainstorming Sheet:
The next step was the create a storyboard, which was pretty simple since we already had the brainstorming sheet done. The storyboard helped us when we were filming with a limited amount of time. We had done the storyboard at home which gave us time to think about where the character would be and if we needed to change anything incase it looked too awkward or weird.
Once we finished planning, we started filming. It took about an hour to get all the footage since we had to take many shots just incase the first one we took was bad. It’s a good thing no sound was required during the project because there were many other students filming aswell and security guards with their golf carts driving around. We started outside since there were too many people inside the class for our classroom scene. We worked our way from the outdoor bench into the hallway and back to the classroom.
After we finished filming, we started uploading and editing our project on Adobe Express. There were some issues with the upload, but it worked fine in the end. The editing didn’t take long since we just had to cut the scenes to where we wanted it and got rid of the audio. It was really slow and laggy, I’m not sure if it’s the computers or the internet, but at least we got it done on time.
I think our time management was really good, we got everything done when we needed it to be. I also think the second half of our project was really smooth and done well for our first project. The first half not so much. I’m not sure why, but everything looked too fast and choppy in the beginning and we didn’t realize it until we had started editing and couldn’t film another shot. I hope that next time we have a bit more time to film and get it almost perfect, also to be more creative with the storyline.
